Intermed Labs is a new healthcare venture studio based in the WVU Innovation Corporation building in Morgantown. The Morgantown Area Partnership named the company the 2025 New Business of the Year.
Their mission is simple in theory but revolutionary in practice: help doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals turn their ideas into real-world medical devices, technologies, and businesses.
“We help doctors and nurses bring their ideas to help patients from the hospital all the way to the market,” said Dr. Tom McClellan, Founder and CEO.
Founded by healthcare innovators who were frustrated with how difficult it is to get from idea to impact, Intermed Labs brings together engineers, designers, and creative minds to build meaningful solutions—and they’re doing it all from their headquarters in Morgantown.
“People all around middle America have wonderful ideas, but they don’t always have the infrastructure to take those ideas and turn them into products and businesses,” Ashok Aggarwal, Founder and Chief Strategy Officer, said.
One of their standout projects, Fingy 3D, uses AI and 3D printing to create custom prosthetic fingers for people who have experienced amputations. With just a few pictures of the hand, the company can produce and ship a custom-fit prosthetic in a matter of days—dramatically increasing accessibility for patients.
“To be honest, it feels like we haven’t even scratched the surface of what’s possible,” McClellan said. “I think we’re a shining star of what’s possible here in the state, and that’s really been my drive to show and tell people what we can do.”
With a team grounded in purpose and a growing list of success stories, Intermed Labs is proving what’s possible when bright minds are given the support to bring bold ideas to life.
“We have one focus: to improve lives. And getting recognition like this helps us reach more people and find more ways to make a difference,” Aggarwal said.
