Hazel Ruby McQuain Park & Amphitheater

The Ruby Amphitheater at Hazel Ruby McQuain Park is Morgantown, West Virginia’s premiere outdoor concert venue, nestled in the middle of historic downtown Morgantown and on the banks of the Monongahela River. The Ruby Amphitheater is a 1500+ seat venue that provides the Morgantown community and surrounding area quality events and entertainment options.

Caperton Trail

This 6-mile trail passes through several Downtown parks, including Hazel Ruby McQuain Riverfront Park, West Virginia University’s Core Arboretum and the Edith Barill Riverfront Park in Star City. The Hazel Ruby McQuain Riverfront Park in Morgantown is adjacent to a restored railway station, and is a vibrant hub of local activity, with a steady stream of walkers, runners, skaters and cyclists. It is part of the 48-mile Mon River Rail-Trail system.

Decker's Creek Trail

Beginning at the confluence of the Monongahela River and Deckers Creek in Downtown Morgantown, the 19-mile trail is one of the main attractions of Hazel Ruby McQuain Riverfront Park.

Waterfront Web Park & Playground

The WVU Medicine Waterfront Web Park pairs the revolutionary EVOS play structure, Ogo saucer swings, and fun musical chimes, with a multi-piece Fit Station circuit providing a perfect trail stop for adults and children. Additional amenities include picnic table, benches and the Signing Tree public art mural.

River Access

Morgantown Marina

The Morgantown Wharf District features public boat docks located on the Monongahela River near the Morgantown Marriott at Waterfront Place. The docks offer transient boat docking, easy access to restaurants, and the Caperton Rail Trail.

Walnut Street Landing

The Walnut Street Landing kayak launch at 2 Walnut Street is a public, handicapped-accessible EZ Launch system. Located at Hazel Ruby McQuain Park, it features roller-lined docks for easy, safe entry into the Monongahela River. It is conveniently near Downtown amenities, adjacent to a boat ramp and bike and kayak rentals by Morgantown Adventure Outfitters.

Upper Monongahela River Water Trail

The Upper Monongahela River Water Trail is a 68-mile paddling trail extending along the Monongahela River from Fairmont, West Virginia, to the Maxwell Lock and Dam in Pennsylvania. It is used for recreation and boating, passing through historic river towns and offering opportunities for paddling and fishing.

[Press Release]: City of Morgantown Opens Applications for Private Outdoor Designated Area (PODA) Permits

As of April 15, the City of Morgantown has opened applications for its Private Outdoor Designated Area (PODA) program. 

What are the benefits of having a PODA in Morgantown?

Having a PODA has the potential to:

  1. Increase visitors to restaurants and bars;
  2. Increase the time visitors spend in the area;
  3. Increase retail sales; and
  4. Adds to the unique visitor experience. Additional benefits to the PODA also include encouraging people to move about the PODA area. Rather than sitting inside, people strolling the business district adds a sense of a more vibrant community. It also affords an opportunity to explore other businesses and lends itself to planned events.

Effective May 1, all Class A licensees (any bar, restaurant, or other place where beer, wine, or liquor can be consumed on premises) are eligible to become a PODA-licensed business. If you have a merchant establishment and do not serve alcohol, you can register and apply for a window decal. With your decal you can communicate to potential customers whether or not PODA beverages are allowed in your establishment.
